ASK
LEE HE KNOWS IS BACK
1-20-00
Q: Dear Lee,
I recently caught your show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C.
The show was great, but I noticed that Sean never seemed to make
use of his microphone. Why give him a microphone if he can't/won't
sing?
A: Dear Alan,
I know this column is called Ask Lee He Knows, but I must confess,
I don't know the answer to this one! The thing is, sometimes he'll
sing "...tell me do you miss me?" in 23 Minutes. Other
times, he sings the "bah, bahs" at the end of Friendly
Advice. But, sometimes not. Occasionally he just grunts between
songs. At soundcheck, he always checks his microphone and makes
sure he can hear his vocal in the monitors. Sometimes a microphone
is just a microphone... I can tell you that Sean has a good voice.
He is the singer in Weeds of Eden. We're finishing that record as
I write this (I promise), and soon everyone will hear the vocal
stylings of Sean Eden. He told me recently that he plans on doing
more singing on the next Luna tour. I say, bring it on Sean. CHECK
1,2,3...!

Q: Hey Lee,
Did you have to go through any hazing rituals before being accepted
as a member of the band?
A: Dear Phoebe,
It's been over three years now - and the hazing continues.

Q: Lee, I don't
know if I'm completely imagining this, but I thought I heard a Luna
song that mentioned the Smashing Pumpkins name in it. If this is
really a song, would you mind telling me the name of it and which
album it's on, cause I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks. Rayanne,
A: Dear Rayanne,I'm
afraid your looking in the wrong place. There is no Luna song that
mentions the name Smashing Pumpkins. There's a Pavement song called
Range Life on the album Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, and I believe
this is what you're looking for- "On tour with the Smashing
Pumpkins...." or something like that. This just in from the
Interesting Tidbit Dept: The record mentioned above was recorded
and mixed by our friend, Bryce Goggin. Currently, Bryce is in the
studio with Weeds of Eden, the side project that Sean and I have
with David Voigt. Look for more on that later this Fall.

Q: Lee, Bathetic
relationship questions are inevitable yet necessary. I am in my
last semester of college and have realized I have made a bad terrible
mistake. I am majoring in two subjects - history and political theory
- where even the fairest of ladies have attractive qualities like
Band-Aids on their knees. I do have my eye on one girl, alas, she
isn't in any of my classes and only passes me betwixt classes on
random infrequent occasions. Abandoning, or at least softening,
the frontal assault strategy and avoiding looking like a complete
stalker, what ought I do about this? Love, Jon Dallas
A: Jon- I would
avoid using the word "betwixt." It's creepy.

Q: Hey Lee,
I'm not sure if this is really a question or not. Basically, I was
just wanting to let you know that my friends and I like to use Luna
as a verb. Are we the only ones who do this? For example, we recorded
a very mellow and noisy version of Jingle Bells recently. So what
we say is that we Lunaed Jingle Bells. There's a lot of songs we'd
like to Luna, but our own original music usually takes precedence.
However, I would someday like to Luna Beauty School Dropout. I guess
I could say that in the future we will be Lunaing lots of songs.
Anyway, what have you guys been Lunaing lately? Joel
A: Dear Joel,
Lunaing can be fun. Have you ever Becked? I'd like to try Bjorking.
During the sessions for the new record, we Lunaed Guns n Roses'
Sweet Child o'Mine and Kraftwerk's Neon Lights. These sessions also
produced one for the vault - our cover of The Rolling Stones' Emotional
Rescue. This one will probably stay in the vault, although I think
I have a rough mix on a cassette somewhere. I wonder what I could
get for that on ebay...?
Now on with
the questions...
Have a question
