ASK
LEE HE KNOWS
3/2/2000
Now on with the questions...
Q: hey
lee! i was just wondering what bands are opening up for you guys
this spring? and do you (or other members of luna) like the popular
girl scout cookies? if so, which kind? thanks! dan
A: Dan,
On the spring tour, you may see one of these bands/artists open
for us: Champale, Mark Eitzel, Lockgroove, and Cat Power. Check
local listings. As for the popular girl scout cookies, I've not
heard them. Are they good?
Q: lee...
could you please inform me this. i would like to know what equipment
y'all use. thanks. jeffrey
A: Jeffrey, We get this question a lot. A list like this
will of course have many variations (and put some people to sleep),
but basically, for all the gear-heads, here goes: On tour with the
LUNA Machine - Sean achieves what has come to be known as "Edentronics"
with a Fender '64 Jazz Master, '64 Jaguar, '72 Telecaster Custom,
and '82 Les Paul. Amps include a Matchless DC-30 and a '63 Fender
Super Reverb. The Dean Wareham Guitar Armada includes 2 early 90's
Gibson Les Pauls made just for him by the Gibson custom shop, a
90's Kelly Telecaster, a reissue Dan Armstrong clear guitar, and
a '63 Fender Jaguar that he stole from my brother. He usually plays
them through a Matchless Chieftain. Sean and Dean play through different
combinations of these effects: Fulltone Fulldrive 2, Boss Compressor,
Tremolo, Analog Delay, DD3 Digital Delay and T-Wah, Ibanez Phasetone,
Digitech Talker, Voodoo Labs Tremolo, Electro Harmonix Micro-synth,
and many, many more. Justin Harwood plays a '63 Fender Jazz Bass
that he bravely rescued from a burning building. It was later run
over by a truck, but seems to sound even better for it. A Mesa Boogie
400+ through an Ampeg 8x10 amplifies the sound on stage. But, while
he's out of town... Britta Phillips plays one of the coolest bass
guitars I've ever seen - a peachy, orange, red Fender Precision
from the 1970's. I play mostly Ludwig drums from the 60's and 70's
in various shapes, sizes and colors, including Blue Sparkle, Blue
Vistalite and Stainless Steel (oooh, aaah). The people at Paiste
Cymbals and Promark sticks are very nice to me, and I recommend
them to anyone who will listen.
Q: Bionjour,
J'ai une idee. An international one. I send you a CD of my band,
and you talk about it during interviews or so. Even if you find
my band is a shit. OK ? You know, it makes a long time I talk and
talk about Luna in France. It's your turn now ! Well, send me first
an adress. Thomas
A: Thomas, You mean like this?
Excerpt from the March issue of WHAT YOU DIG magazine interview
with LUNA drummer, Lee Wall - WYD:
So Lee, what music have you been digging lately? LW: Well, I still
can't seem to get The Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin out of my CD player,
the new Yo La Tengo, and umm, oh there's this guy from France -
Thomas, now that shit rocks!
